Strategic Planning
There are many ways to go about the Strategic Planning process, each with its own advantages. Whatever method you choose, we will work to ensure that your board and staff are all headed in the proper direction to achieve your organization's mission.

Depending on your particular situation, we may use either a Vision-Based or a Problem-Based approach to planning process.
  • A Vision-Based plan is best used by organizations that are healthy fiscally and administratively, and want to focus on how best to achieve their mission. A Vision-Based process may lead to a 3-5 year plan.

  • A Problem-Based plan is best used by organizations that find themselves threatened by an inability to sustain themselves or properly manage their programs. This may lead to a shorter-term plan (1-3 years).
The minimal process will include having from one to three retreats with your board and staff and at least one pre-meeting with the organizational leadership (ED, board chair, other key players). Ideally, the process will include private interviews with all staff and board members. Interviews with funders, clients, and others in your field are optional, but strongly recommended.

Your finished plan document will include goals with measurable objectives, along with timelines and names for accountability. Your plan may also include SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats) analysis or other research.
