We are in a period of consolidation in the nonprofit sector. Financial pressures, as well as the search for greater efficiencies, have led many organizations to pursue mergers and other forms of strategic alliances. As an Interim Executive Director, I have led three different organizations through merger negotiations. Two of these resulted in successful mergers, while in the third situation it became clear the organizations would not be good partners and we chose to not merge. I have also worked with other Board of Directors in discussions of whether or not a merger was the appropriate strategy at that point in the organization's growth. It is also important to recognize that greater efficiencies and savings can result from many levels of strategic partnership, and do not necessarily require a full merger. I can work with your nonprofit in exploring these different types of partnerships.

Rates: An hourly rate is usually preferable. My rates are fair and competitive, and I try to discount for small, newer organizations. Geographic Limitations: Single presentations to boards, or facilitation of single exploration sessions can be arranged throughout Northern California. Ken Goldstein has been working in nonprofits and local government agencies since 1989. His many years of senior management experience includes: Executive Director of Sustainable San Mateo County, Assistant Director of EHC LifeBuilders, Silicon Valley Director of CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, and Director of Online Community Development for HandsNet. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Future Families. Since founding Goldstein Consulting in December or 2003, he has raised over $3 million for his clients. He has also taught fundraising and nonprofit management workshops, facilitated retreats, served in interim executive positions, and performed other contract consulting work. Ken has a Master of Public Policy and Administration from CSU Sacramento and a BA in Politics from UC Santa Cruz. |
